Elmira College is moving forward with a multi-sport turf field – an exciting opportunity that will not only enhance the College’s athletics, but also support enrollment and retention efforts, and support mental and physical well-being on campus as identified in the College’s 2023-2028 Strategic Plan

Please help us jumpstart the Turf Field project with your generous philanthropic support. Initial funding is needed to ensure that the project has the maximum positive impact on new student enrollment and retention for the fall 2024 term and for years to come. We are thrilled that the project will increase our athletic offerings – bringing back men’s and women’s lacrosse teams as well as serving as the on-campus home field for field hockey and men’s and women’s soccer – and support mental and physical well-being on campus for all students through increased recreational and intramural opportunities.

Every gift matters on this important and transformative on-campus construction project. Please consider making a gift or pledging your support today!

April 8, 2024:
The Elmira College Turf Field construction project was approved by the City of Elmira, with one remaining permit needing to be secured regarding surface water percolation. Testing is scheduled for the week of April 15. A percolation test is a soil test designed to measure its water absorption rate. Percolation tests are required before all construction projects to ensure the new construction does not flood the area or negatively impact the City’s stormwater or sewer systems. Once the final permit is approved, construction will begin.

Project phases

  • Permitting Phase: Turf Field construction approved by the City of Elmira in early April 2024. Surface water percolation testing to begin the week of April 15, 2024 for final permit.

  • Construction Phase: Weather permitting, the plan is to begin April 2024, with the project completed by the summer of 2024.

  • Athletic Program Phase: The Soaring Eagles’ field hockey team will relocate from the Murray Athletic Center (MAC) to the turf field for all competitions beginning with the Fall 2024 season. Men’s and women’s soccer will utilize the turf field for all competitions beginning Fall 2024. Lacrosse competitions will begin in the Spring of 2025.

"The building of the field will ultimately provide a better quality of experience for our students whether they are athletes or not. It will bring a great deal of energy and activity to campus with increased intramural initiatives for all students. This is a win for the entire EC community."
